Cam Johnson overcame the absences of Chris Paul and Devin Booker to deliver a masterclass of a performance. He helped lead the Phoenix Suns to a last-second win over the New York Knicks with a career-high 38 points.

After getting into a tussle with Julius Randle in the third quarter, Johnson kept his cool while Randle got ejected. In the fourth quarter, he scored 21 points and hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to give the Suns a 115-114 win.

Johnson's performance came down to making nine triples and sinking a deep buzzer-beater. It was just what the Suns needed with their stars absent. Only one other player in NBA history has ever done that: Damian Lillard, who did so in his famous series-clinching, deep triple over Paul George in the 2019 playoffs.

Johnson will need to keep playing well as the Suns wait for Paul to heal from a thumb fracture and for Booker to be cleared from the league's health and safety protocols. He proved just how valuable his shooting is by making nine of his 12 attempts from deep. Along with Deandre Ayton and Mikal Bridges, he will have to keep stepping up.

Phoenix's 51-12 record remains the best in the NBA by nearly 10 games. Their fantastic depth is a big reason why, as Johnson is one of the most effecient 3-point shooters in the whole league. As the Suns look to finish the job they started last season and win a championship, they will need all the heroics they can get once the playoffs roll around.
