With Chris Paul and Devin Booker both sidelined, the Phoenix Suns need players to step up and keep the team rolling. Against the New York Knicks, Cam Johnson did just that.

With career-highs of 38 points and nine 3-pointers, Johnson had the best game of his professional career. He scored 21 points in the final quarter, which was as many as the Knicks scored as a team. He secured a 115-114 win for Phoenix with a deep buzzer-beater.

Johnson's night was defined by more than his heroics. He also got into a scuffle with Knicks forward Julius Randle in the third quarter. Earlier in the game, Randle knocked the wind out of Johnson on an aggressive move that wasn't called a foul. Through it all, the Suns sharpshooter kept his composure and lit up the Knicks en route to a thrilling win.

After the game, Johnson explained his thought process as he and Randle got into it. He also said that he wanted to be the hero for the Suns, who were missing their two stars.

Johnson is lighting it up this season, shooting 44.8 percent from deep and averaging a career-high 12.8 points and 4.1 rebound per game. Having him surround Mikal Bridges and Deandre Ayton while Paul and Booker are out will be huge for the Suns.

With Paul recovering from a thumb fracture and Booker being placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols, Johnson and the Suns can welcome them back and still have possession of the best record in the league.
