Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul never had any doubt that Monty Williams is the Coach of the Year, but it certainly feels good that things are now official (well, sort of).

Devin Booker announced on Monday that Williams has won the coaching honor, although a formal announcement hasn't been made when he broke the news. Paul then followed it up to confirm the recognition and heap praise on his coach for a job well done this 2021-22 season.

The Suns had the best record in the whole NBA during the regular season, going 64-18 with less than 10 losses each at home and on the road. With that said, Monty Williams definitely deserved the Coach of the Year award more than anyone else.

Phoenix was also in the Top 5 in both offensive and defensive rating throughout the season under Williams, which speaks volumes of the work he has put in to make the Arizona franchise a powerhouse in the tough Western Conference.

Of course Chris Paul and Williams are unlikely to focus too much on the accolade given the situation they are currently in. The Suns are in a tough battle with the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs, with the Mavs tying the series at 2-2. If anything, though, the win could be an added motivation for the team to give another W for their coach.
