It was reported earlier that the Detroit Pistons and the Phoenix Suns were in talks for a trade that primarily involves Reggie Jackson and Eric Bledsoe. That discussion is now finished with both parties failing to come to terms.

And according to Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated, a third team in the form of the New Orleans Pelicans was also part of the failed negotiation. Had the discussion pushed through, the Pelicans would have Jackson, the Pistons would have a new point guard in Bledsoe, and the Suns would get Detroit’s first-round pick in 2019, New Orleans’ 2018 first-round pick, Alexis Ajinca, and Omer Asik.

Both Reggie Jackson and Eric Bledsoe are in a shaky relationship with their respective teams and them landing in new environments seems to be ideal for the two guards.

Jackson has been vocal in his criticism of his teammate Drummond, which is obviously not helping the Pistons. Bledsoe, meanwhile, has been marooned from the team by Suns general manager Ryan McDonough, who is growing more and more intent on dealing the veteran guard away.

But absorbing two big men must have been too much for Phoenix. In the proposed deal, Ajinca and Asik would crowd the Suns’ front court that already has Alex Len and Tyson Chandler, though it should be noted that Len’s contract will expire at the end of the season.

Despite the trade talk losing its legs, this likely won’t deter the Pistons and the Suns from exploring alternative options to rid themselves of their beleaguered floor generals.
