The Phoenix Suns are rolling with the best record in the NBA, but they apparently have interest in acquiring Indiana Pacers star Domantas Sabonis, according to Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer. While the Suns aren't expected to get Sabonis ahead of Thursday's trade deadline because of the high cost and a desire to not disrupt chemistry, Fischer notes some around the NBA have brought up the possibility of a Sabonis-for-Deandre Ayton swap in the summer.

Remember, Phoenix balked at giving Ayton his desired max contract extension this past offseason. While Ayton has been a good soldier and is having another terrific campaign, perhaps he'll want a new home after getting spurned in contract talks.

If that happens, an Ayton sign-and-trade to the Pacers in exchange for Sabonis would make some sense. Indiana would get a new young big man to build around, while the Suns would replace Ayton with an extremely skilled big man. Sabonis isn't the defensive presence Ayton is, but he's a better offensive player and would make that Phoenix offense even more dynamic.

As of right now, this just seems to be a potential idea to think about down the line. The Suns apparently like Sabonis, so it's only natural to connect the dots here given the situation. Phoenix is obviously doing great with Ayton, boasting a 43-10 record that has them as a top NBA title contender. Ayton could very well wind up staying with the Suns for a long time.

However, this situation appears to be one to at least monitor moving forward.
