Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are officially no longer the NFL's defending champions. Last year's winners were dethroned by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55 through another incredibly timeless performance by none other than Tom Brady.

The furious Chiefs offense was virtually absent all Sunday evening as Brady and the Buccaneers completely took over to hand Mahomes and Co. an embarrassing 31-9 defeat.

After the loss, the former league MVP had little to say about the Chiefs' performance in Super Bowl 55 at Raymond James Stadium.

“They were the better team. They beat us pretty good,” Patrick Mahomes said (via Nate Taylor of The Athletic).

For what it's worth, “pretty good” is quite the understatement. The Buccaneers manhandled the Chiefs in Super Bowl 55 magnificent fashion. The Tampa Bay defense exposed the Kansas City's offensive line, which was clearly missing the services of Eric Fisher who tore his Achilles in their AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills.

KC had to settle for field goals all evening and was limited to their first-single digit score in years. The last time Kansas City ended a game with less than 10 points was way back in November 2017 against the New York Giants. It was also the first time that a team led by Mahomes didn't record a touchdown since his days in Texas Tech.

Sunday's Super Bowl 55 performance was definitely not the way the Chiefs wanted to go out after an incredible 2020 campaign. The AFC champions are headed back to the drawing board to hopefully come back next season even stronger.
