It's been an absolute train wreck for the Houston Texans lately, as the franchise is doing everything possible to get back into playoff contention. They have a long road ahead but are already making moves to improve. After letting David Culley go, this organization is now searching for a new head coach.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Texans departed with David Culley on Thursday. After just one year in Houston, Culley now finds himself jobless as the offseason approaches. It's a surprising move, as Culley was just hired as head coach last year. It's not often we see a coach go one-and-done, but this is the second AFC South head coach to do so this season.

We have officially entered a new era for the Houston Texans. After firing David Culley, the front office hopes to hire a new head coach that will elevate the roster. Furthermore, it's likely they trade Deshaun Watson in the offseason, which will bring a haul of draft picks as well.

Depending on who Houston replaces Culley with, the Texans could be on a path to success. This franchise might have gotten lucky when drafting Davis Mills, as he's flashed potential throughout his rookie campaign. If the front office opts to build around Mills with the plethora of draft picks obtained from a Deshaun Watson trade, we could see this team back in contention sooner rather than later.

We'll see how it all plays out, but the Texans are hopeful for better days ahead. Houston must have their eye on a specific candidate to make this move, as Culley didn't do too bad as the head coach. Considering the state of that roster, things could have been much worse for this franchise.

There are plenty of coaching candidates available this year. Mike Flores seems to be a favorite amongst the league. Meanwhile, Nathaniel Hackett, Kellen Moore, and Byron Leftwich are all names being considered as well. Look for the Texans to find a head coach relatively quickly so they can focus on restructuring the roster.
