It appears that if Houston Texans fans want to see Deshaun Watson play extended time on the field, they will have to wait for the regular season to come.

Via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, Texans head coach Bill O’Brien believed that that amount of time Watson and Houston starters spent on the field during joint practices this week with the San Francisco 49ers were more or less enough to justify why Watson would not have a significant workload when they face the Niners at home this Saturday.

“I think it would be about the same,” O'Brien said. “We just ran about 150 plays in two days in 100-degree heat and those guys you’re talking about, most of those guys got probably 50 reps in two days. So, that’s just really good work.”

Watson, who played in only seven games last season before getting taken out for the rest of the 2017 campaign due to a torn ACL, appeared in just a total of five snaps in his 2018 debut in last week’s 17-10 road win over the Kansas City Chiefs. He completed his only pass in that game for four yards.

Instead of Watson, the Texans will feature a lot of Brandon Weeden and Joe Webb under center against San Francisco. Weeden passed for 97 yards with two touchdowns in the Kansas City game on 9-of-11 completions, while Webb went 6-of-13 for 56 passing yards. Webb also led the team with 42 rushing yards on four carries.

The Texans have won seven of their last 10 preseason games, dating back to 2015.
