In a very surprising move, the 2-8 Houston Texans have decided to cut ties with one of their primary running backs, Phillip Lindsay. Via Ian Rapoport:

This is the second RB the Texans have parted ways with in the last few weeks, most recently trading Mark Ingram back to the New Orleans Saints. Lindsay, who is an ex-All-Pro, has struggled since coming to Houston in March. During his first season with the team, the 27-year-old has made just one start, rushing for an average of 2.6 yards per carry on 50 touches. He's also collected just two touchdowns.

This is certainly far from ideal for Lindsay after two consecutive 1,000+ yard seasons with the Denver Broncos in 2018 and 19′. 2020 was a struggle for him as well after featuring in just 11 games, rushing for only 500 yards. The Texans will now be rolling with David Johnson as their main man in the backfield, but he hasn't exactly done great either, failing to register a rushing TD. Houston currently has the worst offense in the entire NFL.

It will be interesting to see if Lindsay is picked up off waivers by another team to add some more depth in the running back room. Although he isn't the same player as past, he could still be a viable option elsewhere as a second or third-stringer.
