The Houston Texans headed into Week 1 of the 2017 NFL season with Tom Savage pegged as the starting quarterback for the foreseeable future. That changed on Sunday with rookie Deshaun Watson getting his first of his NFL career.

According to ESPN's Sarah Barshop, it didn't take long for head coach Bill O'Brien to make the change while facing an enormous deficit against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

After one half of the Houston Texans' season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, head coach Bill O'Brien benched Tom Savage for Deshaun Watson.

Watson, after leading the Clemson Tigers to a National Championship last year, was drafted by the Texans to be the future of the quarterback position in Houston. The Texans are a talented team defensively with J.J. Watt leading the way, but quarterback has been a position of need, especially after making the regrettable decision to sign Brock Osweiler to a lucrative deal last year.

It didn't take long before Watson made an impression under center with the rookie connecting with star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins for his first career touchdown in the NFL. Savage could barely get the ball out of his hands in the first half being sacked six times.

Unfortunately for Watson, it was a little too late to bring the Texans from behind to win this game against the visiting Jaguars. Jacksonville ran away with this Week 1 matchup coming out on top, 29-7.

Watson's four-yard strike to Hopkins was the only touchdown of the game for the Texans. Watson finished with 102 yards passing connecting on 12 of 23 attempts to go along with a touchdown, an interception, and 12 yards rushing.
