Carmelo Anthony found himself out of the Team USA pool of players summoned to try out for the following competitions in 2019 and 2020.

The Oklahoma City Thunder forward could do nothing more than laugh out loud (through the screen) as he read a list of his national team accolades and his surprising omission from the 35-man pre-qualifying list.

Anthony retired from international play after the United States won Gold in 2016, so he might simply be laughing at the notion that he was snubbed from a team he wasn't even trying to make.

Melo has four Olympics under his belt. From finishing with a bronze medal in the Athens 2004 Olympics after his rookie season in the league to three straight gold medal campaigns in Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016.

Anthony holds the Team USA Basketball all-time points record in international competition with 336 points scored over those four Olympics, closely trailed by Kevin Durant with 311.

Despite an undeniable legacy as a perennial scorer for the red, white, and blue, international competitions are hardly based on a meritocracy, as that is what turned a 2004 team into bronze medalists — having close to no chemistry with one another despite the various NBA accolades they held between them.

Gregg Popovich's reign as the new successor to Mike Krzyzewski at the helm of USA Basketball will prove a drastic change, but one that is expected to continue a legacy of greatness for this team, even without its all-time leading scorer on the roster.
