Oklahoma City Thunder forward Paul George wants to live in the now. He doesn’t want to look too far into the future at the expense of losing some of his focus on what’s more urgent, which is helping the Thunder win their first-ever title.

Speaking to Marc Spears of The Undefeated, George was asked of his thoughts on a number of subjects, including what his plans are when his current contract expires at the end of this season. To that, George made it clear that he’d cross the bridge when he gets there.

“There is no next. I’m focused on what is now. There is no next for me right now because the now isn’t finished. The now isn’t where it should be, so there is no thought on what is next. I’m a person that stays busy with what I am doing and stays locked into where I am at. When the next comes, we will prepare for that.”

Paul George is an unrestricted free agent in 2018, when the five-year contract extension he signed with the Indiana Pacers in 2013 lapses.

There won’t be a shortage of suitors calling George’s agent next summer, but there’s always a possibility that he’ll stay with the Thunder.

That said, Oklahoma City doesn’t seem to have the financial muscle to give Paul George a supersized contract that the forward would certainly demand in the market, especially if Carmelo Anthony decides to remain a Thunder past this season.

George, who was shipped by the Pacers to Oklahoma City in a blockbuster trade back in July for Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis, is averaging 21.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season.
