The Detroit Tigers have made it known that they plan to add payroll to a team that has some of the best up-and-coming talents in the big leagues–especially at pitcher. With all of that horsepower on the mound, it is easy to see why the Tigers have been immediately connected to some of the game's biggest bats in free agency. As MLB's signing period has slowly crept its way towards December, Carlos Correa immediately emerged as a strong option for the Tigers.

After all, it was A.J. Hinch and Correa together who brought the Astros their first and only World Series championship a few years ago. Say what you will about the legitimacy of the championship that year, but if anything came out of it was that Hinch and Correa would be linked together forever. So, why not team up again? Well, as Jon Heyman on Twitter points out, Correa may be a little too expensive for Detroit's budget.

If the tigers do pivot off of Correa and move on to one of the other choices, it's not like it is slim pickings out there. Trevor Story had a down year in 2021 but has been a 30-homer guy from the shortstop position, Baez has positional versatility on the infield and also has 30 plus homer potential, and Semien is fresh off of leading the American League in homers with 45…as a shortstop! There is still time for things to change but if Detroit is going to add one of these bats to their lineup then they are going to make some moves up the standings as well.
