Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Derrick Rose got MVP chants in his hometown of Chicago on Wednesday night at the United Center and Timberwolves power forward Taj Gibson says Rose deserved them.

Derrick Rose spent the first eight years of his NBA career with his hometown Bulls and became the youngest MVP in league history back in 2011 when he was just 22-years-old.

Rose put on a show against the Bulls and for his hometown on Wednesday, scoring 24 points and dishing out eight assists in the Timberwolves' win.

After winning the MVP award in 2011, Derrick Rose has gone through a lot of adversity. The former No. 1 overall pick was traded by the Bulls to the New York Knicks in the summer of 2016. Rose averaged 18.0 points per game with the Knicks, but he suffered a knee injury at the end of the season and had to undergo surgery. It was the fourth knee surgery Rose has had.

Rose signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers last season for the vet minimum and had a strong preseason showing. He suffered a serious ankle injury during the second game of the season, though, which resulted in a bone spur. The Chicago native took a leave of absence from the Cavs to rehab the injury.

Cleveland traded Rose to the Utah Jazz at the 2018 February trade deadline. When Utah waived Rose, everyone thought his NBA career was over.

That's when Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau swooped in and signed Derrick Rose for the rest of the season in March, and that move has proven to be a significant one. Rose played well for the Timberwolves in the 2018 playoffs, and he's having an All-Star caliber season this year.

Taj Gibson is 100 percent correct. After everything Derrick Rose has been through, the city of Chicago and Bulls fans did the right thing by showing D-Rose love on Wednesday. Rose is arguably the second-best Bulls player in franchise history behind Michael Jordan. The only reason the Bulls have been relevant since Jordan is because of Rose.
