After spending the past season with the Phoenix Suns, Ricky Rubio found himself returning to the team where he began his NBA career when he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the offseason.

However, with the team struggling season in part due to injuries to their key players, there’s a possibility that his second stint with the Timberwolves will be cut short and he finds himself playing for another team.

With an 8-30 record in the second half of the season, Minnesota is expected to be one of the sellers at the trade deadline, with the team’s veteran players drawing interest from multiple teams. Rubio, who has averaged 7.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 39 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the arc, is among those players.

Per Hoops Hype’s Michael Scotto, other Timberwolves players who have received interest from other teams include Ed Davis, Juancho Hernangomez, and Jake Layman. Playing in his 10th season, the 30-year-old Rubio is a battle-tested veteran that can help a contender looking to add a reliable guard to their rotation for the postseason.

With Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch also giving more playing time to his young players, a departure by Rubio and the team’s other veterans could be likely. However, Scotto also reports that Minnesota is also looking to be buyers at the NBA trade deadline later this month, and has targeted the likes of Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins and Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon.

With the team owning its first-round pick this season and beyond, the Timberwolves certainly have the assets to offer other teams as they look for young players to pair with All-Stars Karl-Anthony Towns and D’Angelo Russell.
