In his third NFL season, Derrick Henry rushed for 1,000 yards for the first time in 2018.

Truth be told, Henry had been viewed as somewhat of a disappointment to that point, seemingly never truly living up to the expectations that were placed on him coming out of the University of Alabama. Last season, though, Henry finished the year as one of the league's hottest players and seems in line for a large role with the Titans again.

In five games in the month of December, Henry’s rushing totals included 97 carries for 625 yards and eight touchdowns, including a franchise record 238 yards against the Jaguars. His 625 yards were the most by any player that month.

In all, last year, he ran for 1,059 yards and 12 touchdowns, but he’s not thinking about that heading into the 2019 season. Nor is he thinking about a potential contract extension in 2020. For Henry, its all about the here and now, about proving himself once more.

It’s starting over,” Henry said following a recent OTA. “We’re not worried about last year – last year is in the past. You have to start over.”

The Titans kick off minicamp today at Saint Thomas Sports Park and Henry is focused on getting better now, so he’ll be ready come fall under offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who was promoted from tight ends coach earlier this offseason.

“Just continue to get good at things you were really good at, and make them great,” Henry said. “That’s what every player out here is trying to do, and we’re trying to do that as a team collectively.”
