There has been no shortage of buildup to the upcoming Super Bowl bout between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The highly-touted individual battler between two all-time great quarterbacks in Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes has likewise been the stuff of headlines ā€” and rightfully so.

Another legendary QB has chimed in on the narrative, and for his part, four-time Pro-Bowler Tony Romo had quite a statement for Mahomes.

According to Romo, Super Bowl 55 will be the most important game the Chiefs star will ever take part in:

In his mind, the only way Mahomes can even get close to Brady's legacy is if the former is able to come out as the victor in Super Bowl 55:

ā€œThis is the biggest game Patrick Mahomes will ever play in for the rest of his career,ā€ Romo stated. ā€œIt's the only way to catch Tom Brady. He has to win this game. If he loses this game, he cannot catch Tom Brady, in my opinion.ā€

We see no lies here. Mahomes has had a tremendous career with the Chiefs thus far, and at just 25, he has many more years ahead of him to continue building his own legacy. The reigning Super Bowl MVP is no doubt a future Hall of Famer, but at this point, what he has done on the football field pales in comparison to that of Brady.

Brady, who will be making an unprecedented 10th Super Bowl appearance on February 7, is considered by many as the greatest ever. Mahomes does have a shot at someday surpassing Brady, but as Romo expressed in his statement above, this will never happen if the Chiefs lose out to Brady's Bucs.
