The Minnesota Twins are currently 14-9, sitting in first place in the American League Central in the early parts of the 2022 MLB season. Despite injures to Kenta Maeda, Sonny Gray, Bailey Ober and Alex Kirilloff, Minnesota has managed to find success. In the midst of a series against the Baltimore Orioles, the Twins received a concerning update on first baseman/third baseman Miguel Sano, as reported by Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic.

Per Ghiroli, Sano has a torn meniscus in his knee and will undergo surgery to repair the injury. The Twins slugger missed some time this past week with a sore knee and was unable to tough out the ailment on Saturday.

Manager Rocco Baldelli said that there is no timetable for Sano's return, though he did note that it's “generally not the longest of rehabs.” Sano, 28, has struggled mightily to start the season, as he posted just a .093 batting average with one home run and a .379 OPS.

The talented slugger has clubbed 30 or more homers in two of the last three seasons, though he has also missed time due to injury in each of those campaigns.

The likes of Byron Buxton, Carlos Correa, Jorge Polanco and Gary Sanchez will have to carry the load offensively for the Twins moving forward.
