Former UFC title challenger Donald ‘Cowboy' Cerrone announced his retirement after a second-round submission loss against Jim Miller at UFC 276. Cerrone finishes his career with a record of 36-17 (23-14 in UFC).

“”I don't love it anymore,” Cerrone said. “It's hard for me now. I'm going to be a movie star, baby. It's time to bow out but I had one hell of a career.”

This announcement has been in the works for quite some time for Cerrone. As one of the most popular fighters in the UFC, Cerrone has utilized his star power in other avenues, such as acting.

He has had roles in movies and television since 2017 and is starring alongside fellow MMA veteran Gina Carano in the 2022 film, Terror on the Prairie.

Cerrone was one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC. He was known for his intense striking and spectacular submission skills, racking up 17 submission wins throughout his career.

The sight of Cerrone near the top of the welterweight and lightweight rankings was a common occurrence during his 16-year career. Unfortunately, Cerrone was unable to capture UFC gold with his lone title shot coming at UFC on Fox: dos Anjos vs Cowboy 2.

While Cerrone retires without a UFC championship to his name, he holds several accolades. He has won “Fight of the Night” six times and “Performance of the Night” seven times.

He is also tied for second-most wins in UFC history and second-most finishes in UFC history. Cerrone has also earned a fair bit of extra cash during his stint in the UFC with him being tied for most post-fight bonus awards in UFC history.

Finally, Cerrone is the sole owner of the most knockdowns in UFC history.
