Former NFL linebacker DeMarcus Ware announced his retirement last March, yet his phone is still ringing from time to time with teams inquiring whether he’d be willing to play again.

DeMarcus Ware was on board for an interview with Rich Eisen’s show last Tuesday and told the host that he even received a call from a team, asking him if he’d be able to play this coming Sunday.

“Yeah, this morning,” Ware told Eisen when asked if he had gotten a phone call about coming out of retirement. “Today, like 15 minutes ago, asking if I want to return to the NFL. This is the time where teams want pass rushers, and pass rushers get hurt throughout the season. They would assume me being ready for their game this Sunday to rush the passer at least 15 times during the game.”

Ware didn’t name which team it was that contacted him, but it must have been a very pass-rusher needy team for it to take a shot at luring a 35-year-old NFL retiree back into the game.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New York Jets are two of the worst in the league in terms of sacks, while we could also speculate that it was Bill Belichick on the other line speaking to Ware, as the New England Patriots have the worst pass defense in the league today.

Ware, an eight-time Pro Bowler, was among the most prolific pass rushers of his time, racking up 138.5 sacks (eighth in NFL history) over his 12-year NFL career that ended with the Denver Broncos in 2016.

Ware made it clear, however, that he has no plans of being a nightmare to quarterbacks again.

“I’m not getting out there, I’m not playing anymore. I’m done.”
