The favorites to win Group C at the 2024 Copa America take the pitch as Uruguay faces Panama. It is time to continue our 2024 Copa America odds series with a Uruguay-Panama prediction and pick.

Uruguay is the heavy favorite to win the group and sit third in odds to win the whole competition.  In their last six qualification matches, they have been stellar, going 4-1-1 and scoring well. Meanwhile, Panama has the longest odds to come out of Group C. They do have four wins in their last six international matches, but of those four wins, only one of the four teams qualified for this tournament. That was against Costa Rica, which has the second-longest odds to win the tournament, only in front of Panama.

Why Uruguay Will Win

Uruguay has not played much in the 2024 calendar year. They have played in just two international friendlies, but the two friendlies have given an idea of what this offense is going to be. Darwin Nunes led them in the competition, scoring three goals in just 68 minutes in one appearance in the friendlies. In six World Cup qualifying matches in 20-23, he was also dominant. Nunez scored five goals, plus two assists. He averaged 1.38 goals plus assists tots for every 9- m, minutes of actions. Further, he had an expected goal total that was even higher, showing he is the main force to be reconned with when it comes to Uruguay.

For Uruguay, while the main scoring option is Nunez, the midfield does a lot of the work to get Nunez into those positions. Much of that comes from Nicholas De La Cruz. He has played in just 45 minutes of friendlies this calendar year and did not do much in that time, but in World Cup Qualifying, he was a primary part of the offensive attack. He scored three times, as the top option beyond Nunez, but he also had three assists. Uruguay also has a blossoming star in Facundo Pellistri. Pellistri has a goal and assists in the two friendlies this calendar year, while also having an assist in qualifying. The Midfielder can play both midfield and forward, and while he has just one point in qualifying, he had an expected point total of 2.35. He has continued to improve in each match and should complement Darwin Nunez.

Sergio Rochet is expected to be in goal for Uruguay. He allowed just three goals on nine shots in five games in qualifying.

Why Panama Will Win

While Panama has won their last two international games, the wins have been against Montserrat and Guyana. The last two major opponents they have faced have been Jamaica and Panama, and they have lost a combined 4-0 in those games. Still, some players should make an impact for Panama. Ismael Diaz has been solid in recent international play. In the Gold Cup, he led the team with four goals, and he also added an assist. He averages over one point per nine- minutes of play, playing both forward and midfield. Panama also got a lot of their scoring on the counter. Michael Amir Murillo does that. The defender and midfielder played in just three games in the Gold Cup but had three goals and assists in those games.

Erick Davis will be another major factor in this tournament for Panama. He had five assists in six games at the Gold Cup. He is a specialist on free kicks and corners, so if Uruguay fouls in the attacking zone for Panama, look for Davis to be a factor. Orlando Mosquera should be in goal for Panama. He allowed six goals on 21 shots on target in the Gold Cup. He has also been solid in recent friendlies. The major concern will be the amount of shots on targets he faces. He struggles with high shot volume at times, but he has also shown he can perform in pressure situations./ Against Mexico in the Gold Cup, he allowed just one goal on seven shots on target.

Final Uruguay-Panama Prediction & Pick

This is shaping up to be a dominating performance by Uruguay. They are the much better team in this game and should score with ease. Panama does not have the attacking players to make a difference, nor do they have the defense to slow down Uruguay. Still, while taking Uruguay to win will net money, the best play is going to be on the total. Expect Uruguay to score at least twice, and then another goal to come from them or Panama on the counter. Take the over in this one.
