Another player will not be playing in the 2020 NFL season, but this time not due to the Coronavirus. Minnesota Vikings linebacker Cameron Smith will miss the 2020 season to have open heart surgery.

Recently Smith was told by doctors that he would require surgery due to a bicuspid aortic valve he was born with. However, the Vikings linebacker took to Instagram to tell his fans that his playing days are far from over.

“I found out I need open heart surgery to fix a bicuspid aortic valve that I was born with,” Smith posted on Instagram. “Although this will unfortunately end my 2020 season, it is really a blessing that we found this as my heart is severely enlarged and wouldn’t have lasted much longer. I found this out after I tested positive for COVID and had to have further testing done as protocol. The Lord works in mysterious ways, but I could really feel him on this one!

By no means am I ready to be done playing football, there is still so much more I want to accomplish on the field. I’m going to attack this like everything else I have in life. Already looking forward to the comeback! #SKOL”

He may have opted out anyway without the surgery due to already having COVID, but the virus was a blessing in disguise for the second year pro, as that is what caused him to find out about the issue. While this will end his 2020 season before it even started, he plans to return when he is able to.

Best of luck to Cameron Smith on his surgery, recovery, and return to the field for the Minnesota Vikings.
