Minnesota Vikings fans have not had many reasons to feel cheery this season, but they received some good news on Wednesday. Star running back Dalvin Cook returned practice and looks to be in line for a return for this weekend's game against the Green Bay Packers.

Cook missed the team's last game against the Atlanta Falcons before having a bye week to rest his injured groin. The former Florida State star said Wednesday he is ready to get back to work:

“I feel good,” Cook said, via Chris Tomasson of TwinCities.com. “I’m going to go out here and practice, and we’re going to go from there. But I feel good, though.”

Cook had been in dominant form prior to sustaining a groin strain against the Seattle Seahawks earlier this month.

The 25-year-old had rushed for close to 500 yards and seven touchdowns through just five games, once again asserting himself as the team's top offensive weapon.

But Cook's brilliance has not resulted in team success. Injuries to Minnesota's front seven and an inexperienced secondary have led to fairly sharp regression on the defensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has struggled to move the ball down the field early in games, with the team often fighting from behind.

The Vikings traded away Yannick Ngakoue, but did not wholly commit to being “sellers” ahead of the trade deadline.

It will be tough for Minnesota (1-5) to get back on track against the Packers this weekend, but the Vikings will be glad to at least have Cook back in action.
