The Minnesota Vikings made headlines with their decision to trade wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills this offseason. It appears the lack of firepower in the receiving corps has not gone unnoticed by quarterback Kirk Cousins.

The Vikings are dealing with some major depth issues to complement wide receiver Adam Thielen on the outside.

According to Chad Graff of The Athletic, Cousins feels they can alleviate this by featuring plenty of tight end and fullback schemes on offense:

“Quite frankly, I’m someone who is a proponent of a two or three tight end offense, of having a fullback in the game – especially when you have CJ Ham. … There’s no rule that says we have to play four or five wide receivers at a time.”

It seems Cousins is doing what he can to find the silver lining in parting ways with a wideout of Diggs' caliber. Although he seems to be optimistic that the offense can make the necessary adjustments the prospect of featuring a tight end-heavy approach out of necessity is hardly an encouraging sign for the 2020 NFL season.

The Vikings have yet to determine a bonafide No. 2 option for Cousins in the passing game. While they can take solace in the fact that Thielen has proven capable of handling a heavy workload, finding a replacement for Diggs will undoubtedly be a point of emphasis this offseason.

Fortunately, the 2020 NFL Draft is expected to feature one of the deepest receiver close in recent history and Minnesota should have plenty of chances to pick up an immediate impact player.
