The Minnesota Vikings made a splash by winning the Kirk Cousins Sweepstakes this offseason. It appears he has already started to make an impression on offensive coordinator John DeFilippo.

Getting adjusted all the new changes can be tough for any quarterback. However, DeFilippo says he is pleased with what he has seen from Cousins in organized team activities, via SiriusXM:

“But I’ll tell you, as OTAs have gone along, Kirk’s played very, very well and he’s starting to really get a feel for the guys around him. He’s starting to get a feel for the guys up front. The guys up front are starting to get a feel for him. I mean, cadence, that’s a big deal. When a new quarterbacks comes in and it’s a new cadence, a new offensive coordinator is calling a new cadence. Those are all things that take time to get on the same page. So I’ve been pleased with each day that you’ve seen us get better each day, in my opinion, and we’re going to continue to try do that each practice.”

DeFilippo's comments should come as no surprise. Cousins was the most sought-after quarterback on the market this offseason and now it is easy to see why. The Vikings were not even necessarily in dire need of a quarterback with three capable arms on the roster at the time. However, it is clear that Minnesota has high expectations for the 2018 NFL season.

Of course, it will take some more time for Cousins to get acclimated to the new system. Regardless, there is still plenty of optimism that he will be able to take this team to the next level. He is coming off his third straight 4,000-yard campaign and is now joining a team that is far more talented than what he had with the Washington Redskins. It will be interesting to see what Cousins can do with one of the best-receiving duos in the league in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.
