The Minnesota Vikings organization has been talking like they want quarterback Kirk Cousins back for the 2022 season. Cousins is entering the final year of his contract- which expires after the 2022 season- and could be looking for some long-term security from the franchise. However, recent buzz around the Vikings suggests that Cousins isn't so keen on taking a hometown discount in any extension with Minnesota, which could make keeping the quarterback difficult for the cash-strapped Vikings. That makes a Cousins trade a reasonable option for the franchise. The trade whispers have reignited after the latest Vikings rumors, via Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

La Canfora is hearing from NFL executives that the Vikings are looking to clear big contracts off the books and start over from a cap perspective, certainly a wise stance for a team that needs to clear as much as $14 million just to get even on the books, per Spotrac.

If the Vikings are seriously thinking about clearing big contracts away, Kirk Cousins' name is the first one they should consider.

While Minnesota may have to eat a considerable amount of his salary in a trade, the veteran quarterback also has perhaps the best value of any player on the roster in a potential deal, outside of untouchable players such as Dalvin Cook and Justin Jefferson.

As La Canfora notes, there are still plenty of QB-needy teams out there. Would any of them bite on a Cousins trade?
