Most coaches see the offseason as a time for them to get their quarterbacks up to speed before the start of the new season. However, that does not seem to be the case for Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Cousins is entering his second year as the Vikings starter. According to Chad Graff of The Athletic, Zimmer feels the only thing left for him to improve upon is his ability to win games:

“With him,” Zimmer said, “I don’t think it’s any of those things. It’s games – that’s where he’s got to play better.”

Zimmer's comments are certainly understandable. Cousins has been a starter long enough to know how to prepare during the offseason. his only concern moving forward is making sure it comes together during the season.

The Vikings made quite the investment last offseason when they won the sweepstakes to sign Cousins in an effort to follow up on their trip to the NFC Conference Championship the year before.

Unfortunately, Minnesota took several steps back after finishing the 2018 campaign with an 8-7-1 record.

Their struggles were magnified by the fact that Cousins struggled to produce when the Vikings needed him most. His inability to win crucial games for Minnesota has resulted in plenty of speculation regarding whether or not he is the right man for the job.

Although the Vikings still have one of the more talented rosters in the league, it will not amount to much unless Zimmer can find a way to beat playoff-caliber teams moving forward.
