Ahead of a Boxing Day matchup with the Los Angeles Rams, the Minnesota Vikings have received some unfortunate news on their star running back Dalvin Cook. Per Field Yates, he's heading into COVID-19 protocols after missing practice on Thursday:

It's unknown if Cook is vaccinated or not, but if he is then he'll be able to return as soon as he can clear the league's protocols. However, this situation definitely puts the Vikings star's status in doubt for Sunday's game. Cook is putting together another solid campaign, rushing for over 1,000 yards and 11 touchdowns. He's also collected 221 yards receiving.

Although this is an unfortunate blow for Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota offense, they just activated running back Alexander Mattison, who was previously in COVID-19 protocols. He's actually been a beast in place of Cook, collecting over 120 yards from scrimmage in three starts in 2021.

At 7-7, this is a big game for the Vikings. They're currently in a Wild Card spot but a lot can change this weekend if they lose to the Rams, depending on results elsewhere. Minny will need another valiant performance from Mattison in the meantime while hoping that Dalvin Cook could be ready to roll by January 2nd when the Vikings face Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.
