The Minnesota Vikings pulled into the final playoff spot last week with a hard-fought win over the Chicago Bears Monday night, 17-9. On Wednesday, they got some good news with the return of Pro Bowl wide receiver back at practice.

Thielen only returned in a limited capacity, but the fact that he was out there at all is a great sign. He almost suited up for the game against the Bears. Prior to the game, he tested out his ankle but ultimately was deemed not healthy enough to play. It was the second straight game Thielen has missed with the ankle injury.

In his absence, the Vikings passing game has struggled. Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins threw for a season-low 87 yards on Monday. Vikings receiver K.J. Osborn struggled to get space off the line of scrimmage and was unable to get open underneath. That's something that Thielen has become one of the best receivers in the world at doing.

Despite the poor offensive showing, the Vikings defense showed up in the win. They sacked Bears quarterback Justin Fields three times and forced three fumbles in the win.

Minnesota will likely need Thielen this week against the Los Angeles Rams. Breakout receiver Justin Jefferson will see plenty of Jalen Ramsey in coverage, opening things up underneath for Thielen.

This is a huge game for Minnesota. They are 7-7 and tied for the final wild card spot in the NFC. After the difficult test with the Rams, the Vikings finish the season with division rivals, Packers and Bears. Green Bay will almost assuredly be looking to clinch the overall #1 seed in Week 17, so this is a must-win for Minnesota.
