The Minnesota Vikings boast one of the most talented defenses going into the 2018 NFL season. Unfortunately, that status of cornerback Xavier Rhodes is still uncertain for Week 1.

Rhodes has been battling hamstring injury as of late. According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, he is listed as questionable for the season opener versus the San Francisco 49ers:

Xavier Rhodes (hamstring) is listed as questionable, but he practiced in full on Friday and has a far better shot to play than the '50-50′ the NFL defines with that designation.

Rhodes' current status is certainly a cause for concern. He managed to establish himself as one of the premier lockdown corners in the NFL. He finished the 2017 campaign with 56 tackles, two interceptions, and 10 pass deflections en route to his second straight Pro Bowl selection.

Minnesota will be tested from the start as they play host to the San Francisco 49ers. There is plenty of hype surrounding San Francisco this season. At the forefront of this optimism is the emergence of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Although the 49ers do not have a clear-cut No. 1 wideout, they would undoubtedly miss Rhodes' presence against Garoppolo.

It appears Rhodes is not the only cornerback dealing with an injury. Corner Mackensie Alexander has been listed as doubtful due to an ankle injury. Even if Rhodes does take part in Sunday's action, it may be in a limited capacity. The last thing the Vikings want to do is aggravate a hamstring injury so early on in the year when it is clear they have high expectations down the road.
