The Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Villanova Wildcats 81-65 in their Final Four head-to-head matchup on Saturday. With the win, Kansas advances to the championship to take on the winner of Duke and North Carolina. Villanova enjoyed a successful season overall but fell just short against an extremely talented Jayhawks team. One of the stars for the Wildcats took the loss especially hard.

Collin Gillespie checked out of the game with just over 30 seconds remaining as it became clear that Villanova had no chance of a comeback. Gillespie exited the game with tears in his eyes in what made for a very emotional moment.

The 22-year old senior will be remembered as one of the best players to ever don a Villanova jersey.

Gillespie enjoyed a tremendous 2021-2022 campaign. There is no question that the Wildcats would not have made it as far as they did without him.

He finished the season with 16.3 points per game on 44.7 field goal percent and 43.1 three-point percent shooting. Additionally, he shot a superb 91.5 percent from the free throw line. He finishes his Wildcat career with 12.6 points per game and over 1,600 total career points. He also shot 39.1 percent from beyond the arc during his career at Villanova.

Gillespie did all he could to lead Villanova to a victory on Saturday. He truly laid it all on the line in his final college game with 17 points on 6-11 shooting from the field to go along five three-pointers. He also tallied two steals.

Although it was not the end result he was looking for, Collin Gillespie should be proud of his exceptional Villanova Wildcats career.
