Golden State Warriors All-Star DeMarcus Cousins has been sidelined for quite a while due to an Achilles injury, but he's on the path to recovery and should be back soon. While there still is no set timetable for his return, Warriors president Bob Myers says Cousins is nearing the finish line:

Cousins, now 28 years of age, has been working hard towards recovery, but the pace has been a bit slower than he'd like. However, the former University of Kentucky standout is back to practicing with his teammates and is focused on conditioning.

“It’s not about my Achilles, not about one specific part of my body; it’s my entire body,” Cousins told Anthony Slater of The Athletic last week. “It’s about being out of shape, taking a year off basketball, then jumping into an NBA game. That leaves you pretty open to get another injury, like a hammy strain.”

Cousins joined the Warriors in July, agreeing to the terms of a one-year, $5.3 million deal. Though they're playing well, the Dubs could use his services, as the injury bug has crept its way into their frontcourt rotation.

“This is my ace of spades,” Cousins told ESPN after signing with the Warriors. “This is my chess move.”

In his 48 appearances with the New Orleans Pelicans last season, Cousins racked up averages of 25.2 points on 47.0 percent shooting from the field (35.4 percent from beyond the arc), 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.6 steals in 36.2 minutes per outing.

Needless to say, Warriors fans are excited for Cousins' debut. In the meantime, though, Myers may elect to bring in another big to shore up the roster. Exactly who he has his eye on remains to be seen.
