Golden State Warriors rookie Jonathan Kuminga could return and make his official NBA debut as early as Saturday against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Kuminga confirmed the possibility himself, noting that it will be a big day for him and his family in Congo should he be given the green light to suit up. Meanwhile, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr highlighted that the rookie forward is progressing in practice.

“”He is a possibility to go tomorrow,” Kerr said of Kuminga during Friday's practice, per USA Today. “He is playing 3-on-3 right now so we’ll see how he comes out of this day.”

The development isn't that surprising since the Warriors already allowed Jonathan Kuminga to participate in full team practices last week. He was set to be re-evaluated Friday after being ruled out for their three-game road trip, and it looks like he is well on track to play.

Kuminga is rehabbing a strained patella tendon in his right knee, which he injured during their preseason game against the Denver Nuggets earlier this October. He has been out ever since, with the Dubs remaining cautious of his condition that could worsen if they rush the rookie back.

The seventh overall pick of the 2021 NBA Draft, Kuminga played relatively well during the Summer League, showing flashes of his offensive and defensive potential. He averaged 14.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in four games for the Warriors.

It remains to be seen if he can keep the same production at the real NBA level, but fans might have to wait some time for that as it is clear the Warriors will try to ease him into the lineup.
