Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant admitted to a pair of predetermined decisions during an appearance on All The Smoke with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson.

Durant said he had a feeling he would leave the Oklahoma City Thunder even before his final year in OKC during the 2015-16 season because he wanted to play with more “skill” guys.

In the same vein, Durant said he knew the 2018-19 season would be his last with the Golden State Warriors when it became clear there was some divisiveness between KD and the rest of the team (per Drew Shiller of NBC Sports via RealGM):

“I knew just about the halfway point through the year,” said Kevin Durant. “I could feel, you know, the separation between the two. Everybody was just waiting on me to make a decision on free agency — coaches, to my teammates, to the media — it's like January and I'm like, ‘Yo, I'm just trying to hoop.'

“That's all I want to do is play basketball every day. I came in every single day and kept my head down. I ain't say much, I wasn't too excited about much, so my coaches and teammates thought something was wrong with me. But I was really focused on the end goal, which was to win the third championship in a row.

“My methods not be welcoming to other people, but it's just how I do things — how I approach the game.”

Much of Kevin Durant's 2018-19 campaign was indeed defined by his impending free agency, rather than the idea the Warriors were trying to become the first team to three-peat since the Los Angeles Lakers at the beginning of the 2000s.

Despite the general overtones Durant might have given during the course of the interview, he also said he wanted to return to the NBA Finals as soon as possible so as to help his teammates in GSW win another title. Durant was also highly complimentary of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

But for Kevin Durant, it has always been about what is best for him as a basketball player.
