Steve Kerr admits the Golden State Warriors had to go through a “rocky path” to get back to the NBA Finals, but he did emphasize the Dubs never lost belief that they can return to the biggest stage in all of basketball.

Speaking to reporters as the Warriors gear up for Game 1 of the NBA Finals starting on Thursday, Kerr shared how their hot start to the 2021-22 season proved that they were on their way to another big campaign. According to the veteran head coach, it was quite clear right from the start that everyone had that belief they can return to their winning ways once again.

“I think we had great hope to start the season and belief, which we didn’t really have the previous two,” Kerr said of the Warriors' journey to the NBA Finals, per NBC Sports. “It felt like we had a real chance to kind of get back in the fight, and I think our players felt that way too.

“I also felt like we had refilled our cups after missing the playoffs the last two years. Everyone came into this season really hungry, and you could see the way we started … We shot out of the gates, great connection on this team, great camaraderie.”

Steve Kerr certainly couldn't have said it any better. They started the season with a league-best 18-2 record, and while injuries and key absences halted their momentum, it was evident that they were back to their usual dominant selves.

True enough, the Warriors proved that as they secured their ticket to the NBA Finals, their sixth in eight years and after two seasons missing the playoffs. They had to go through the Denver Nuggets, Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks–all teams featuring All-Star talent–but they showed they still got it.

It remains to be seen if the Warriors can get the job done, but there is no reason to believe that they couldn't.
