Last season, the Golden State Warriors won just 15 games throughout the campaign. Nevertheless, Dubs head coach Steve Kerr recently admitted that he enjoyed that year even more than he did the 2018-19 season, which happened to be Kevin Durant's final year with the Warriors.

In a recent appearance on the Real Ones podcast with Logan Murdock and Raja Bell, Kerr explained why that particular season was not as enjoyable for him on a personal level:

“The first four years of our run — the coaching was way more fun,” Kerr said Monday, via Drew Shiller of NBC Sports. “We were joyful and everything was really simple and no agendas. And then that last year, things kind of went haywire. Even though we went to the Finals, it was difficult.”

The fact that the Warriors won three titles in the span of those “first four years” probably had a lot to do with the coaching being fun for Kerr. In 2019, Kerr, Durant, and the rest of the Dubs were upset by the Toronto Raptors in the Finals. That pretty much marked the end of the dynasty.

Kerr went on to explain exactly why last season's horrible run was more memorable for him:

“I enjoyed last season — when we had the worst record in the league — more than I enjoyed that last season when we went to the Finals,” said the Warriors coach. “We had young guys last year who were trying every day, working hard. We had a great energy, great spirit, great camaraderie. Losing sucked.

“But what you want is a good vibe. You want to look forward to going to the gym every day and seeing everybody. That last year was tough — when we lost to [the] Toronto [Raptors] in the Finals.

“There was a lot going on, some that you know about and some that you don’t. That was very difficult.”

To be clear, Kerr did not mention Kevin Durant in his statement here. Nevertheless, KD was one of the biggest pieces during that 2018-19 Warriors campaign, and it's hard not to think that a bit of shade is being thrown here. Or are we stretching the narrative here a bit too much?

For Kerr to say that he enjoyed losing much more than he took pleasure in coaching Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and the rest of the Warriors all the way to the Finals (forget that they lost) really speaks volumes of how miserable Kerr was during the 2018-19 season.
