The Golden State Warriors are the 2022 NBA Finals champions. They defeated the Boston Celtics in six games, closing out the series in Boston Thursday night. Warriors owner Joe Lacob discussed the team's journey to the championship with The Athletic's Anthony Slater following the win.

According to Lacob, he never doubted his core team, even when others wanted them to pick up a superstar in the 2021 NBA Offseason.

“They were doubted,” he said, all quotes per The Athletic. “We believed in that core. Not many teams have a core four…I know some people thought we could’ve done more, got another star. But who were we going to get? Who was available that would make a difference? We didn’t think there was, and we really wanted these young guys to be developed and learn from these guys. They have learned. We are going to be even better as a result of that in the years going forward.”

Lacob explained the importance that Andrew Wiggins had as the fourth member of the Warriors' core.

“He’s a prototypical wing who just played for a not-so-good team, didn’t get perhaps the best culture,” Lacob said, referencing Wiggins' time with the Minnesota Timberwolves. “We thought if you put him in our situation, he could be great. He didn’t have to be 1A. You saw what he did in these playoffs. He was really, really great.”

Wiggins was one of the only constants for the Warriors in the Finals. He averaged 18.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists in the six game series.
