Cam Newton found himself jobless following the New England Patriots' shocking decision to release him Tuesday morning. His next stop is unclear as of the moment. It's unknown whether he'll walk away from football completely or will land with another team just before the 2021 NFL season kicks in just a little over a week from now. If Newton will ever play in the NFL again, there are a lot of people out there who think it makes sense that he would reunite with his former coach, Ron Rivera, who's now with the Washington Football Team.

Newton running it back with Rivera with the Washington Football Team surely would score a ton of sentimental points. Rivera even admitted that Newton turned their heads after the quarterback's release from New England, though he also sounded confident with Ryan Fitzpatrick as the team's top signal-caller, per Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.

Ron Rivera asked if Cam Newton popped up on their radar after he was released from the Patriots: “It did pop up on our radar, but just so you know, Ryan Fitzpatrick is our starting quarterback.”

It's not hard to connect Newton to Rivera. The two worked together for nine years during their time with the Carolina Panthers. They had fun and success over there, even reaching the Super Bowl in 2015. That said, there's just not much incentive for the Washington Football Team to be in a hurry to sign Newton, who's obviously not the dominant athlete he used to be.
