On Tuesday, the New England Patriots made a shocking move by releasing quarterback Cam Newton.

The move paves the way for rookie Mac Jones to be the starting quarterback for New England.

With the release of Cam Newton, it opens up the door for him to sign elsewhere.

Here are the three best destinations for Cam Newton after his stunning release from the Patriots.

Houston Texans

The Houston Texans have an absolute mess at the quarterback situation that all circulates around Deshaun Watson. Houston revealed on Monday that the plan is to keep Watson on the active roster but have him inactive for the regular season. This comes on the heels of numerous women accusing him of sexual assault.

That leaves Tyrod Taylor as the likely QB1 in Houston with third-round pick Davis Mills in the fold as well. Jeff Driskel could be another option.

On one hand, the Texans can't possibly expect to be a playoff caliber team this year so perhaps the idea of signing Cam Newton wouldn't interest them from that perspective. However, if they are looking at the possibility, Newton would be an upgrade over every single quarterback on the current roster sans Watson (who won't be active).

Even if the Texans just did it as a legitimate depth move, Cam Newton would provide stability to the quarterback room.

Dallas Cowboys

Dak Prescott is the clear-cut, QB1 in Dallas for the Cowboys. Jerry Jones finally opened up the checkbook for Prescott this offseason, insuring the star quarterback would be in Dallas for the long haul.

Cam Newton might have to accept the reality that teams will view him as a backup quarterback. If that's the case, the Cowboys should definitely take a flier.

Prescott is coming off a gruesome ankle injury last season and there have been conflicting reports about how ready he is for Week 1 despite the fact that it's clear he will be starting.

Last year the Cowboys had veteran Andy Dalton as Prescott's backup and he saw plenty of action once Dak went down.

Entering this year, the Cowboys have Cooper Rush as the backup quarterback after cutting Ben DiNucci and Garrett Gilbert. Clearly Cam Newton would be a big upgrade at the backup spot.

With the Cowboys, expectations are always sky high even if star players go down with injuries. To provide them with some insurance in the case that Prescott has a setback or misses any time, Newton would be the right fit. Nobody is buying Cooper Rush stock. If he sees the field for Dallas at all this year, things will have gone south or be on the way to heading that direction.

Cam Newton would provide a veteran presence and a great backup option should anything happen with Prescott.

Minnesota Vikings

Like the Cowboys, the Minnesota Vikings have a clear cut QB1 in Kirk Cousins. It may not be the nicest car in the garage but, it's what the Vikings have.

Minnesota went out and drafted Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond with the No. 66 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, Mond looked abysmal during the preseason, opening up the door of doubt for Mike Zimmer's mind.

The Vikings have long needed a safety blanket at the backup quarterback spot and Cam Newton could slide right into that role.

The problem of course, would be if Cousins struggles that fans start to clamor for Newton to start and turn the dial up. Good news for Newton, bad for Zimmer and the Vikings front office.

Still, adding Cam Newton would be a real nice insurance policy for the Vikings to back up Cousins.
