The Washington Football Team reportedly paid a sum of $1.6 million in a settlement following a sexual misconduct allegation made by a former female employee towards team owner Daniel Snyder, per The Washington Post.

The Washington Football Team paid a female former employee $1.6 million as part of a confidential settlement in 2009, according to a copy of the agreement reviewed by The Washington Post. The settlement was struck after the woman accused team owner Daniel Snyder of sexual misconduct, a person familiar with the matter said.

Ownership of the team has been up in the air, with three minority owners – Robert Rothman, Dwight Schar, and Fred Smith – looking to sell their stake in the franchise, at discount of the price. Snyder didn't seem to appreciate their intentions and removed them from the board this past June, and the both sides have been on pretty bad terms since.

Now, the three minority owners reportedly unearthed this controversial agreement that has very serious accusations. According to the report, the incident, revealed by an anonymous source, allegedly happened in Snyder’s private plane while on the way back from the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. The revelation of the case comes as the NFL continues its investigation into sexual harassment within the organization.

Snyder and the franchise chose to stay mum when asked about the issue. Likewise, the NFL did not provide any comments when asked about its awareness of the settlement.

The fight for Washington Football Team's ownership has certainly taken quite a controversial turn. It remains to be seen how this will all end up for Snyder.
