Going back to the 2017 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers used their two second-round picks on cornerback Kevin King and safety Josh Jones. After reflecting on those selections, it's worth asking, what could have been had the Packers drafted JuJu Smith-Schuster instead?

The Pittsburgh Steelers ended up landing Smith-Schuster with the 62nd overall pick in the draft. It's worth noting, the Packers had both the 33rd and 61st overall picks in this particular draft. Given how early wide of a gap there is between the 33rd and 62nd picks, it's mostly worth questioning if Green Bay should have taken Smith-Schuster with the 61st pick.

When it was time for the Packers to announce their selection for the 61st pick, they decided to go with Josh Jones, a safety out of North Carolina State. Without a doubt, Green Bay would love to go back and choose Smith-Schuster over Jones if they had a chance to re-do the 2017 NFL Draft.

Just two years after drafting him, Jones is no longer with the Packers. Even when he was in Green Bay, Jones started in only 12 games; combining for 122 tackles, three sacks, an interception, and seven deflections. Now, Jones spends his days playing for the Dallas Cowboys as a backup safety. The Cowboys are weak at their safety positions, thus showing where Jones is at this point in his career.

On the other hand, Smith-Schuster has been developing into a talented wide receiver in the NFL. In his first two seasons with the Steelers, the USC product hauled in 169 receptions for 2,343 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Just last season, Smith-Schuster led Pittsburgh with 111 receptions, 1,426 yards, and seven touchdowns. That is quite impressive considering the fact that he was playing alongside Antonio Brown in the offense. Injuries have prevented Smith-Schuster from repeating his dynamic sophomore season. Nevertheless, his future in the NFL and with the Steelers is still bright.

This season, Green Bay has desperately needed a reliable wide receiver alongside Davante Adams. Before this year's trade deadline, the Packers were scouring the trade market to possibly add a veteran piece to improve the wide receiver position.

But after not being able to acquire anybody, Green Bay has continued to try and rely on the likes of Allen Lazard, Geronimo Allison, and Marques Valdes-Scantling. Even Jake Kumerow has been asked to take on a larger role in the offense.

Just three years after the 2017 NFL Draft, Green Bay is undoubtedly kicking themselves for not taking Smith-Schuster when he was available. It goes without saying that the 23-year-old wide receiver in Pittsburgh would solve a ton of Green Bay's offensive issues.
