Washington Wizards guard Isaiah Thomas says he expects to miss a “few more games” with a calf injury, according to Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.

“I always feel like I can play, but the medical staff wants to be cautious about it, knowing it's a long season,” said Thomas. “There's a bigger picture and I'm just listening to whatever they've got to say.”

Of course, Thomas is no stranger to playing through injuries.

Back during the 2016-17 campaign, his final season with the Boston Celtics, Thomas played through a hip injury that ultimately knocked him out of the last three games of those Eastern Conference Finals.

The Celtics then traded Thomas, who was set to be a free agent during the summer of 2018, to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Kyrie Irving.

Since then, Thomas has not been the same.

He missed the start of the 2017-18 season, finally returning for the Cavaliers for just 15 games and posting abysmal results before being traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Thomas appeared in 17 contests for the Lakers before electing to undergo hip surgery, and that ensuing offseason, he signed a one-year deal with the Denver Nuggets.

The 30-year-old participated in just 12 games with the Nuggets last season before eventually falling out of the rotation.

He signed with the Wizards this past summer and has experienced his most successful run since his final year in Boston, averaging 12.6 points and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor, 41 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

It's nothing like his MVP-caliber season three years ago, but it's certainly a step in the right direction.
