Newly acquired Washington Wizards forward Trevor Ariza may not be leaving the nation's capital anytime soon after recently coming over from the Phoenix Suns.

Ariza was (finally) picked up by the Wizards following a crazy couple of days that featured a reported three-team deal between the Wizards, Suns, and Memphis Grizzlies that eventually fell through due to the whole Dillon Brooks or MarShon Brooks confusion.

But now, the veteran forward finds himself joining a struggling Washington team that hopes adding him to the roster will help turn things around.

However, could Ariza be around for the long term with the team?

Here's what Fred Katz of The Athletic had to say about the reasoning for the Wizards choosing to add Ariza:

Don’t get this wrong. The Wizards did not trade for Ariza with the intention of flipping him. In spite of an 11-18 start, this team has a chance to sneak into the No. 8 seed (or maybe even higher) inside the clumsiest Eastern Conference in a long time. Could 38 wins be enough to make the postseason?

Of course, he also looked at the opposite side of things and wondered if the Wizards could choose to move Ariza elsewhere if making the playoffs becomes unrealistic:

If that’s the case, the Wizards probably wouldn’t be out of the race for sure until the end of the year. So, they’re gunning for the playoffs and hoping for the best. But if they do drop past what they figure is their floor, they have options — and moving Ariza could be one of them.

Either way, the Wizards are hoping that Ariza will give them a huge boost so that they can snap a four-game losing streak and turn things around for good.

They'll now prepare for a showdown with the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday afternoon.
