Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh was expecting the worst when it came to star wide receiver Ronnie Bell's injury diagnosis after he hurt his knee in Saturday's season-opening win over Western Michigan. Indeed, Harbaugh announced Monday that Bell is out for the rest of the season, per The Athletic's Austin Meek.

Bell suffered the injury in the second quarter of the 47-14 shellacking after fielding a punt and then taking a big hit. The wide receiver needed help off the Michigan Stadium field and then had to be carted to the locker room.

The Wolverines wide receiver will do what he can to help his team while injured:

The senior wideout was primed for a big season in 2021 before this injury. He already had a 76-yard touchdown catch against Western Michigan and made a ridiculous one-handed catch that unfortunately didn't count because of a penalty. He also had a 31-yard punt return in the game.

Bell led the Wolverines in receiving in both 2019 and 2020. In 2019, he had 48 catches for 758 yards and a touchdown. In the shortened 2020 campaign, the wideout had 26 catches for 401 yards and a score.

Michigan is looking to bounce back after going just 2-4 in last year's COVID-marred season. While the Wolverines are off to a 1-0 start thanks to their big victory over Western Michigan, the season-ending injury to Ronnie Bell is a tough setback. Jim Harbaugh's crew will have to get over this injury quickly as they prepare for a Saturday night game against the Washington Huskies.
