With SummerSlam pay-per-view event about to start, fans are reminded of one iconic wrestler that hasn't been seen since the last iteration of the event. John Cena last appeared on a WWE program during SummerSlam 2021, where he lost to Roman Reigns. Since then, Cena hasn't appeared in any programs, leaving fans with one question.

Did Cena have his last WWE match last year?

Well, at least one WWE superstar still wants the “Doctor of Thuganomics” back in the ring. Randy Orton, one of John Cena's fiercest in-ring rivals, talked about their time together in the show. Orton praised Cena's ability to get the crowd going, and had a heartfelt message for him as well. (via WWE on YouTube)

“I love John, he was my favorite opponent. Coming up, through my career, I learned a lot from him… He always had the crowd in the palm of him hand. It was a little because they loved him so much, or they hated him so much. He understood how to get those emotions from them… Dude's a genius. I miss you, John. I miss you.”

Cena and Orton's history are almost tied to the hip at this point. Every WWE fan growing up witnessed these two superstars rise to the top in their different ways (Cena as the company babyface, Orton as an excellent heel) before eventually converging in the 2010s. From there, Cena and Orton had one of the most iconic rivalries in pro wrestling history.

While John Cena hasn't been active in the pro wrestling scene for nearly a year, Randy Orton is still kicking butt in the WWE. Will we ever see these two stars duke it out in the ring again? Cena has hinted that his “Doctor of Thuganomics” gimmick isn't quite dead yet…
