On Sunday, the Major League Baseball 2022 All-Star Game rosters were revealed. New York Yankees rising star, Clay Holmes, was named to his first All-Star team. After learning of the news, Holmes addressed reporters and talked about what it means to him and his family.

“I made a promise that she'd (his wife) be the first one… she is super proud of me. She's been a person that has experienced the highs and lows with me and I think it just means a lot for me to experience this accomplishment with her,” Holmes said. He was then asked if he had plans for the All-Star break and the Yankees closer gave a hilarious admission. “No, I was planning on staying in New York, finding something to do around here. I like to travel a little less when I get a little break” he said as reporters laughed.

Holmes was clearly deserving of his first All-Star Game nod. He was given the Yankees closer job once Aroldis Chapman was hurt. However, he has been so dominant this year that even when Chapman returned, Yankees skipper Aaron Boone kept Holmes in the closers spot.

Clay Holmes has pitched in 38 games this year, and has an absurd 0.46 ERA. He has amassed 16 saves to go with 40 strikeouts in 39 1/3 innings. But the save total does not truly tell the story. Batters have a hard time even reaching base on the Yankees reliever, who has a ridiculous 0.74 WHIP.

He has been one of the primary reasons New York has the best record in all of baseball this season.
