In a New York Yankees roster loaded with power-hitting giants, Matt Carpenter has managed to stand out. The Yankees' midseason addition has been one of the best hitters in baseball throughout his first 30 games with the team.

It all reached a crescendo for Carpenter on Saturday as the division rival Boston Red Sox came into town. New York clobbered their longtime foes in a lopsided 14-1 affair, with half of those being driven in by Matt Carpenter by himself.

The 12-year veteran hit a pair of three-run blasts to the right field stands, sending the crowd into an absolutely frenzy over the mustachioed man running the bases. His curtain call later in the game was as well-deserved as any one that came before him:

“That’s pretty special,” said Matt Carpenter on his moment with the Yankees crowd. “You never know when the last time you’re going to put this uniform is or on what day that is and I felt like I might have had that a couple of times this year. To be here, and to be playing for this team, in this city, for this franchise, I don’t take it for granted. I come to the ballpark every day overwhelmed with joy and gratitude and, man, it’s just been a lot of fun.”

Carpenter has hit 13 home runs in his first 30 games with the squad, a feat that's never been done in franchise history. The Yankees already own the best record in baseball. For them to pick up Matt Carpenter, a three-time All-Star and former top five MVP finisher, playing the best baseball of his life at 36 years old – that's just an embarrassment of riches.
