The New York Yankees kicked off their opening day with a 6-5 win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday. However, the biggest news surrounding the organization is MiLB manager Rachel Balkovec's huge win on Friday.

The Tampa Bay Tarpons won their first game of the regular season, marking Balkovec's first win and her managerial debut in the league.

Yankees Videos tweeted the historical news Friday night.

This marks the first-ever win for a woman manager in professional baseball, and another trailblazing moment for Balkovec. The Yankees announced the hire in January, making Balkovec the first woman manager in affiliated baseball.

The 34-year-old overcame numerous obstacles to get to her position and even overcame an injury just a few weeks ago. Balkovec was struck in the face by a batted ball in practice in late March. Fortunately, the injury only sidelined her for a few days, and she was ready to go for her managerial debut (and first win) on Friday.

The Yankees MiLB team defeated the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 9-6ย  in Balkovec's first win. Starting strong, the Tarpons look to continue their undefeated season throughout the remainder of their three-game series against Lakeland. Meanwhile, the Yankees will attempt to do the same in their final two games against the Red Sox.
