The New York Yankees have some talented minor leaguers waiting in the wing for their chance to reach the big-league club. While Jasson Dominguez is probably the most renowned farmhand in the Yankees' organization, there are plenty of other top-tier talents working their way up the minor leagues. One Yankees prospect made a huge jump in ESPN's latest Top 100 prospects rankings, as shortstop Anthony Volpe jumped all the way to the No. 6 spot. While that should be music to Yankees fans' ears, the comparisons Volpe has been receiving of late should have them fired up even further, as the young shortstop has been likened to Blue Jays star Bo Bichette.

Volpe has truly made some significant strides over the past calendar year. The young shortstop didn't even feature on Kiley McDaniel's Top 100 list in 2021, making his first appearance on the list in 2022, all the way up at the No. 6 spot. MLB Pipeline's most recent update heralds Volpe as the No. 15 prospect in baseball, but they have yet to release their rankings for 2022 as of now.

Volpe spent the 2021 season at two different minor-league levels, playing a total of 109 games at the Single-A and the A+ level. The shortstop recorded an impressive .423 OBP and .604 slugging percentage, having launched 27 home runs and driven in 86 RBI.

The former first-round pick was selected 30th overall by the Yankees in 2019, and while he's progressing well through the minors, he's not estimated to reach MLB until 2023 at the earliest. Still, the Yankees previously made him off-limits in potential Matt Olson trade talks, so clearly the organization sees him as a critical part of the future. The recent comparisons to Bo Bichette should have fans feeling even more optimistic about Volpe's long-term outlook.
