The Washington Commanders are on the verge of becoming a legitimate playoff contender in the NFC East. However, there are still numerous concerns surrounding the team, especially with Carson Wentz under center for the upcoming season. This franchise could use some help from their rookie class to maintain relevance within their division. For that reason, we look at one undrafted free agent who will make the Commanders' 2022 roster.

This team should take a step forward in success due to the new players brought into the roster. It'll be interesting to see who steps up, but the Commanders are in a decent spot entering the summer. Even so, the main area of concern is the secondary. With numerous rookies within that position group, an undrafted free agency could emerge as a shining gem.

The Commanders signed 13 undrafted free agents after the 2022 NFL Draft. Of those, three of them are cornerbacks, which makes sense as the pass coverage was awful last year. There is a unique opportunity in Washington and it should be an exciting camp to pay attention to.

With that said, here is our one undrafted free agent to make the Commanders' 2022 roster.

Commanders Undrafted Free Agent To Make 2022 Roster

Devin Taylor

Coming out of Bowling Green State, Devin Taylor is a unique prospect who has a real chance at making the Commanders' final roster. At 6'1″ and 203 pounds, this rookie has the size to match up with most receivers in the league. It'll be interesting to see how he does in camp, as he has plenty of competition around him fighting for a spot on the roster as well.

Taylor was a solid cornerback in his final year of college. In 2021, Devin Taylor finished with 43 total tackles, three forced turnovers, and eight pass deflections. He proved to be reliable in pass coverage in the ACC as well, as he played a year with Virginia Tech before transferring to Bowling Green State. Based on his past production, this kid has some decent potential, especially as an undrafted free agent. This makes him an intriguing option for the Commanders.

Washington currently has 10 cornerbacks on the roster with four of them being rookies. With that in mind, the Commanders are essentially having open tryouts at cornerback. It's anybody's game, and that gives Devin Taylor the opportunity he needs to prove himself as an NFL prospect. If he performs well through camp, Ron Rivera and the coaching staff will have to reward him with a roster spot.

The Commanders can use all of the help they can get from their secondary. Washington was horrible in pass coverage. That needs to change if this team hopes to make a playoff push in the 2022 season. Taylor could earn a rotational role and play sometime in specific packages. It's more likely he wins a spot on special teams. Either way, Devin Taylor is going to have a legitimate chance. to prove himself.

Considering Washington has a solid front seven, this defense should improve for the upcoming season. The Commanders have the pieces necessary to control the line of scrimmage and attack the opposing quarterback. That should present opportunities for the secondary to make some big plays. Look for Devin Taylor to light it up through the summer and make the final roster.
